In the last couple of months, we’ve looked at some tasty, anti-inflammatory recipes compatible with an Alzheimer’s prevention diet. Significant data points to a plant-heavy, low-inflammatory diet being the best for preventing a wide variety of diseases, including Alzheimer’s and dementia.


In honor of the holiday season, here are some delicious dessert recipes, all with a healthy twist! These treats are sure to be crowd pleasers while also providing the added benefit of potentially reducing inflammation in the brain and body. These recipes feature berries, nuts, coconut, and vegetables, all foods that contribute to cognitive health.

Holiday Treats - Compatible with the Alzheimer’s Prevention Diet

  1. Buttery Cherry Crumble Pie: With rich black and red cherry filling and an irresistible buttery oatmeal crumble, this homemade cherry pie is good for you. Use frozen, pitted cherries for quick and easy baking. To make the crust, combine your flour with salt, then add 3 tbsp maple syrup and 1/4 cup oil to make a dough. Smooth it evenly and press it into the bottom of the pan. Toss the cherries and sweetener of choice and layer over the bottom crust.   2. Healthy Blueberry Pie: Chock full of blueberries bursting with flavor and a protein-rich almond flour crust, this delicious homemade pie is a healthy twist on a classic flavor.
  3. Paleo Banana Cream Pie: Featuring coconut in the form of coconut oil and coconut milk, this low-carb version of a banana cream pie comes together quickly. Primarily sweetened with fruit and featuring an almond flour crust that can be baked beforehand, this homemade pie should prove healthy, quick, and tasty. Bake the pie crust using this recipe, then cool the crust. Combine coconut milk and coconut oil in a blender for the banana cream filling, and blend in bananas, dates, and stevia. Pour mixture into cooled pie crust. Chill for 4 hours. Garnish with bananas and classic or coconut whipped cream.
  4. Low-Sugar, Grain Free Lemon Meringue Pie: The beloved classic lemon meringue pie gets a low-carb, grain-free makeover. The lemon filling is tart and sweet, and the meringue has a crisp outside and a tender middle.
