Keeping one’s living space organized can be helpful for success and productivity in any stage of life. For those with cognitive decline, however, an organized living space can go a long way toward keeping life running smoothly.

In this post, we’ll look at some top tips for entryway organization. The entryway is the first thing you see when entering a home or apartment and the last thing you notice when leaving. For those with Alzheimer’s or dementia, the entryway can serve as a functional and helpful place for reminders before entering the world.

Scroll down to look at some stellar ideas for designing and maintaining an attractive and functional entryway for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Entryway Organization for Alzheimer’s Impacted Individuals

Hall Tree/Hall Stand: A hall tree is a fantastic and space-efficient way to organize an entryway. Many hall trees include a mirror, hooks to hang hats and jackets, a shelf to place bags and a key bowl, and a lower shelf for shoes. Additional items for Alzheimer’s impacted individuals are a large format calendar with information on daily weather, a cork board or whiteboard for daily notes, and a laminated sheet with emergency contacts and phone numbers.

Here are a few hall trees that fit the bill: (1) Farmhouse entryway hall tree, (2) Dark woodgrain hall tree, (3) Walnut wood hall tree, and (4) Solid wood black hall tree. Another option is to look for vintage hall trees on Offer Up or Facebook marketplace. There are some beautiful, solid pieces with a lot of charm and character!

Shoe Bench and Shelf Combo: While this option will provide less storage than a hall tree, it’s a good entryway organization idea for smaller spaces.

Board & Batten Wall: While this project might be more of an undertaking than just buying a piece of furniture, the results are fun and classy! Board and batten can be installed on the lower half or two-thirds of the wall, with a classic wallpaper on the upper half. Hooks for bags, hats, and jackets can be installed onto the board and batten, as well as a shelf for keys and a standing notepad. Click here for more info on installing board and batten.
